Issue creation auto responder

forums-5
We need to allow anonymous users to create issues and receive auto emails from JIRA.

I also don't want to create a new user if they are not already setup.

Currently I have it setup but it's not sending an email stating the ticket has been created and etc.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm using "Script Runner" plugin for sending emails based on priority, it might help you...

Yeah, you can fake it using script runner. Have a custom field for their email address and then use the base email script I provided (I believe Jamie put it on the Script Runner wiki under sample scripts) and plug the email in based on that custom field.

Two different methods here: https://studio.plugins.atlassian.com/wiki/display/GRV/Post+Functions#PostFunctions-SendEmailWhenBlockerReported

Personally I think I prefer to fire an event as shown in the second example, that lets you use the standard jira email templates.

Matt,

Can you point me to this specific script you talk about.  I couldn't find it on the wiki.  I appreciate it.

Click on the link in Jamie's post right above yours. That is the exact link.

Re: Issue creation auto responder

forums-5
Thanks.

I'm not asking anyone to do the work for me (I'm more than willing to roll up my sleeves and get dirty but instructions are no where to be found).

I'm assuming I'm doing everything through Script Runner in JIRA?  However running the scripts on the wiki won't compile (on Groovy or ECMAScript script engine).  Even after modifying the script accordingly.

The only script that has worked is the sample script provided on the wiki.

{code}
import com.atlassian.jira.ComponentManager

def projectManager = ComponentManager.getInstance().getProjectManager()
def result="";
for(p in projectManager.projects) {
        result += "Project $p.name id is $p.id\n";
}
return result;
{code}

Any advise?

Re: Issue creation auto responder

make sure you are running the scripts as post-functions, as that is what most of them are intended for (I think...atleast my email one is.) Otherwise you will get many many errors including "no object found 'issue'" or something along those lines.

Re: Issue creation auto responder

Matt,

Excuse my ignorance but how do I run the script as a "post-function"?

I've tried searching on the wiki but I'm not having a lot of luck.  Thank you once again.

Re: Issue creation auto responder

JiraMailAutoresponder
In reply to this post by forums-5
Hi,

I have created a simple mail plugin for Jira 5 which allows customers to create or update issues via e-mail without requiring those customers to have a JIRA account.

Customer's can send an e-mail to our support e-mail address and my mail plugin will automatically create a new ticket (or update an existing ticket if an existing issue ID is included in the subject line) and send an auto-response to the customer confirming receipt of the support request and including the ticket number (if a new ticket has been created) or indicating that an existing ticket has been updated.

If anyone would be interested in this send me an email to nick dot mccarthy at cantab dot net and I will send you the source or a jar file. I would be interested to find out if people would find such a plugin useful because I searched for a long time to find an open-source solution before coming to the conclusion that I would have to write one myself!

Writing the plugin was not as easy as I first thought - but I learnt a lot doing it.
